I first joined in 1976 as an infantryman. Spent the next three years progressively as a rifleman, section 2ic and section commander. Commissioned from the ranks to officer in 1979. Completed degree programs, Carleton University.

Posted as RSSO with Grenadier Guards, Montreal, being deployed for two consecutive years in six-month stints as DCO and OC Admin Coy Ceremonial Guard, Ottawa.

Reclassified to Intelligence late in 1988. Upon completion of reclass training was posted as the G2 The Canadian Airborne Regiment. Attended CFLCSC, Kingston. Deployments included domestic internal security operations and later a stint in Honduras.

Commenced terminal retirement leave as a major in 2000 after 26 years of service. Medically released from the CF due to too many wounds, which impaired my operational deployment.

Currently, I am the Publisher of VeteranVoice.info (the largest collector and disseminator of Canadian veteran-related news and information), owner of my hobby motorcycle shop HylandMotorshop.com, and a volunteer webmaster and database administer for a number of military-veteran related websites.

I am an Original member from the inception of The Canadian Army Veteran Motorcycle Units (CAV), the largest Canadian, truly national, veteran motorcycle organization. I was the CAV's first National VP, Founder of Ypres Unit in Calgary and the Founder and President of 3rdCAV (western Canada).

I am also a Council of the Clan Wallace Society - Worldwide.

I have been married to Dawn for 30 years, and have three grown adult children. The youngest son is married and serves in the Regular Army as an infantry corporal and has combat tours in Afghanistan. Eldest son is a single, bachelor-for-life...at least that is what he tells me. Eldest child, my daughter and her husband, have three of their own children.

Further, we are a cat family of seven female cats. You know what they say about old cat people!!!!

I live six months in Calgary and another six months each year in Texas at my homestead in the rolling, wooded hills of Cherokee County. I am also a biker. Hence, I want the best weather I can get to ride as much as possible at any given time of the year. East Texas is just such a place.
